GRACE

You know sometimes my words don't do a subject much justice. Like trying to explain a sunset to a blind person or a symphony to a deaf person. Sometimes God gifts people to do just that. I have always enjoyed listening to those people who CAN give words to a sunset or pictures to a symphony. U2 is and has been my favorite band for a long time. Their songs have many times put words in my mouth about certain situations. They have put words to my thoughts at times, helped me grieve lost relationships, put joy in my heart at the sight of a song played live on one of the coolest stages ever, and the cool thing is Bono is a believer. He wrote a song called grace in 2000 that puts some words to a really hard subject to explain. My favorite line in it is "grace makes beauty out of ugly things". Email me and let me know what you think Grace is all about. Here are the lyrics to the song:
Grace, she takes the blame
She covers the shame
Removes the stain
It could be her name

Grace...
It's a name for a girl
It's also a thought that, changed the world
And when she walks on the street
You can hear the strings
Grace finds goodness in everything

Grace, she's got the walk
Not on a ramp or on chalk
She's got the time to talk
She travels outside of karma, karma
She travels outside... of karma

When she goes to work, you can hear the strings
Grace finds beauty in everything

Grace...
She carries a world on her hips
No champagne flute for her lips
No twirls or skips between her fingertips
She carries a pearl in perfect condition

What once was hurt
What once was friction
What left a mark
No longer stings...
Because Grace makes beauty
Out of ugly things

Grace finds beauty in everything
Grace finds goodness in everything

VIDEO KILLED THE RADIO STAR. by the BUGGLES

I heard you on the wireless back in Fifty Two
Lying awake intent at tuning in on you.
If I was young it didn't stop you coming through.

Oh-a oh

They took the credit for your second symphony.
Rewritten by machine and new technology,
and now I understand the problems you can see.

Oh-a oh

I met your children
Oh-a oh

What did you tell them?
Video killed the radio star.
Video killed the radio star.

Pictures came and broke your heart.
Oh-a-a-a oh

And now we meet in an abandoned studio.
We hear the playback and it seems so long ago.
And you remember the jingles used to go.

Oh-a oh

You were the first one.
Oh-a oh

You were the last one.

Video killed the radio star.
Video killed the radio star.
In my mind and in my car, we can't rewind we've gone to far
Oh-a-aho oh,
Oh-a-aho oh

Video killed the radio star.
Video killed the radio star.

In my mind and in my car, we can't rewind we've gone to far.
Pictures came and broke your heart, put the blame on VTR.

You are a radio star.

CLOCKS

Coldplay
Clocks

Lights go out and I can't be saved
Tides that I tried to swim against
You've put me down upon my knees
Oh I beg, I beg and plead (singing)
Come out of things unsaid, shoot an apple of my head (and a)
Trouble that can't be named, tigers waiting to be tamed (singing)
You are, you are

Confusion never stops, closing walls and ticking clocks (gonna)
Come back and take you home, I could not stop, that you now know (singing)
Come out upon my seas, curse missed opportunities (am I)
A part of the cure, or am I part of the disease (singing)

You are [x6]
And nothing else compares
Oh no nothing else compares
And nothing else compares

You are [continues in background]
Home, home, where I wanted to go [x4]

Coldplay is one of my favorite bands in a while. I enjoy listening to their stuff while I work out. I was running today on the treadmill at 24 hour fitness, watching ESPN's Sportcenter, and listening to "Clocks" (song listed above.) Then in the middle of this song a line unmistakably stuck out. I have heard this song a hundred times at least and God used this time to pose a question to me. "am I A part of the cure, or am I part of the disease" WOW! This needs to be asked not only once in our lives but very often. I know when my heart is not right and I am focusing on the bad and not good...I can easily be a part of the disease. Ever notice how bitter people attract other bitter people. I don't want to be a part of this. I want to be a part of the cure. I want my heart to be right, and when it is not I want to hunger to be back in the right place. As we talked about suffering for Christ in NORTHface last night we said that we have to experience Christ in a way that we KNOW, without a doubt, that He is worth any amount of suffering this world has to offer. When we know Christ in that way we WILL be a part of the cure to the disease of sin. Like Paul in Philip. 3:10
"I WANT TO KNOW CHRIST and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of sharing in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death". All other things become more petty, more meaningless. What the world offers becomes less attractive and what Christ has for us becomes for us the ultimate goal. We then start looking like, acting like, becoming PASSIONATE followers of Christ. PASSION: the degree of difficulty you are willing to endure to reach the goal. What are you passionate about? If it is anything other than CHRIST you are far too easily pleased.
