WHAT'S THAT WORD???

Sam with dictionary

The other day Sam and I were talking about our liking the dictionary. This may seem wierd to most people but I love having a dictionary with me as much as possible. There are times when I stop a conversation mid stride and have to look up a word because the person I am talking to has used a word that I don't know. So my question today is for Sam. I don't know if sam will read this so I may need your help to figure this one out with out him. My question is...What is that word you told me about the other day after playing disc golf, that means "a person who uses big words". Please let me know what this word is. Just click on the comment link below this entry and help me out. I will see many of you this sunday. Bring your camp deposit if you haven't given it to me. Also, if you have been to camp with us, go to the entry about camp and comment on it leaving reasons you enjoy camp and what God has done in your life through it. Love you like fat kids love cake!

God is good!

We as a church meet the last Tuesday of every month at CHS to worship together and pray. This is, if you don't already know, the biggest reason we do not have our normal Wednesday night Student gathering called NORTHface. We had a really good time together last night. I encourage you as students to be a part of this time. It will give you more time to be around adults in our church and just as important, time for adults in our church to be around you and to see you worship with them. Have you sought God this week? He is calling you. He promises that when we seek Him with all our heart that He will be found. WHAT A PROMISE! The God of the universe, creator of all things WANTS to be found by us. He is calling you. Are you listening? He has a plan for your life. Do you know that? Have you rested in Him lately? We get caught up in the busyness of our lives and often times get overwhelmed. We get frustrated, depressed, stressed, angry, and who knows what other emotions come from this...but there is an answer. NO not a good dose of sponge bob square pants, or an hour blowing up bad guys in Halo 2. The answer is to rest in God. Get alone, open your bible to the psalms and make much of who God is. Make a list of the good things He is to you. I heard John Piper say, we don't go to the grand canyon to make much of us we go to the grand canyon to make much of it. It would be silly to bring your own personal mirror to set up and stare at yourself instead of God's vastness in creation in the Grand Canyon. Can you hear it? as everyone around you is oooohing and aweing about how beautiful the canyon is, you are looking in your little mirror thinking to yourself, "man i am pretty". YIKES. So instead of making much of ourself today, let's try making much of God. Rest in Him today. Here is some of the scripture we studied last night. Ask God to speak to you as you read it. Jeremiah 29:11-14
For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. [12] Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. [13] You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. [14] I will be found by you," declares the Lord,
Have a great day today!
remember your camp deposit is due now.

Camp deposit Due Tomorrow

Hey friends. Just a Reminder $50 deposit is due tomorrow at R.O.C.C rally. (renewing our climbing companions) Please come and hang out with us tomorrow night at CHS at 6:30pm. Yes that is 6:30pm. Bring your deposit for camp. Camp is going to be incredible this summer so don't miss it. Don't let money be the reason you don't go to camp. Please let me know if you are having trouble coming up with money. We will have scholarships available. If you would like to contribute to the scholarship fund please see one of our church staff for info or "CLICK HERE" to email me. Any help would be appreciated and much needed. Also, get your friends to sign up for camp. This is a great way for you to "make Him known" as our Mission statement says- "Northface student ministry exists to draw students into a LIFE relationship with Christ who ignites the desire to know him and MAKE HIM KNOWN." Inviting your friends is a great way to do this. So...talk camp up to your friends. Click the comment link at the bottom of this entry and talk about reasons you enjoy camp.
ALSO- NO NORTHFACE THIS WEDNESDAY because of ROCC rally tues. If it is warm enough a few of us are going to go out to Quail Ridge and play a round of
disc golf to practice for our own ICE BOWL, February 5, 2005. So let me know if you are intrested.

God is Good. Have you praised Him today? Have you worshiped Him with all your heart, mind, soul, and strength today?

Psalm 135:1-6
Praise the Lord.

Praise the name of the Lord;
praise him, you servants of the Lord,
[2] you who minister in the house of the Lord,
in the courts of the house of our God.

[3] Praise the Lord, for the Lord is good;
sing praise to his name, for that is pleasant.
[4] For the Lord has chosen Jacob to be his own,
Israel to be his treasured possession.

[5] I know that the Lord is great,
that our Lord is greater than all gods.
[6] The Lord does whatever pleases him,
in the heavens and on the earth,
in the seas and all their depths.

Saturday morning fun!

I'm not talking "trading spaces- girls vs. Boys" here. We are getting together and have some fun of our own. Girls will be meeting at the Swanson's at 11:30 to eat some pizza and make some journals. These journals are really cool and very well made. You will be the talk of the town walking around with these stylish journals. For you guys out there and a few select group of girls, we will be meeting at the Berner's house at 11:30 to melt our brains playing tournament Halo 2. For those of you like me who don't have xbox and play PS2 and will be out of any kind of halo tourny because we are terrible and might as well play with huge hulk foam hands and a helmet, we will be able to play other games on the PS2. Hope to see you peeps there tomorrow. email me if you have questions. All mentioned activities will come to an abrupt end at 4pm central time.

Lessons from our Good brother Ren

the button of temptation

What lessons can we learn from Brother Ren and Stimpy this week?

  1. That when we deprive ourselves of much needed things (i.e. Time with God) we can start doing some crazy things. Ren ate soap thinking it was his ice cream bar. We Start chasing things other than God and when we reach them they aren’t what we thaught they would be. "Sometimes the things we want most in life are the things that will kill us."( Blue like jazz, Donald Miller p. 76, Don rabbit)Rev. 2:3-5 You have persevered and have endured hardships for my name, and have not grown weary. [4] Yet I hold this against you: You have forsaken your first love. [5] Remember the height from which you have fallen! Repent and do the things you did at first. If you do not repent, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place.

  1. Sin can blind us from those who are trying to help us- Ren thought stimpy had attacked him. Have you ever got mad at your parents or a friend or teacher or youth minister for pointing out something you were doing that was wrong? Proverbs 12:15 The way of a fool seems right to him, but a wise man listens to advice.

  1. When we are caught up in our sin we will desire to drag others down with us. Its much easier to rationalize sin when we have accomplices. Ren didn’t like that Stimpy was still so happy. And like glory stealing God does not look lightly on this…Matthew 18:6 But if anyone causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a large millstone hung around his neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea.

4. Temptation in very difficult to resist- almost impossible on our own.

1 Cor. 10:13

No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.

See you tonight!

Eph. 1:17-19 Paul tells us he is praying for us. He is praying that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious father, would give us a spirit of revelation and wisdom so we can know Him better. He asks God to enlighten the eyes of our heart so we can know the hope to which we are called. This has been my prayer for us as we are well into the new year. Come tonight to CHS at 7pm to hang out with us, play some xbox, nintendo, and who knows what else, worship with us, and dig into the word with us. I pray that you would know the hope to which we are called. This only comes with revelation. Revelation only comes from the father. So pray with me that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ would let us experience Him tonight, and tomorrow, and the next day, and so on...So we can know that hope...So we can have wisdom and revelation. I hope to see you there tonight.

Hiding God's word in our heart

As most of you know we meet @ 9am on Sunday mornings in the gameroom of the theatre to pray together and memorize God's word. We know that when we hear and understand scripture we have heard the voice of God. I think most of us try so hard to "hear" God that we don't pick up the thing called "the WORD" of God. So join with us and memorize scripture. here are a couple of verses we are working on right now on Sundays. Ephes. 1:17-19
I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. [18] I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, [19] and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is like the working of his mighty strength,

Col. 3:1-11
Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. [2] Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. [3] For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. [4] When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.
[5] Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry. [6] Because of these, the wrath of God is coming. [7] You used to walk in these ways, in the life you once lived. [8] But now you must rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips. [9] Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices [10] and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator. [11] Here there is no Greek or Jew, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave or free, but Christ is all, and is in all.

IN THE YEAR 2005

Thank you to those of you who came to the meeting last night. The weather did not cooperate very well but still we press on. I have noticed a couple of you came by to see what this page is. Sorry, it is not very impressive. I will try to learn more about blogging in order to make this page a little more pleasing for your eyes. I am looking forward to seeing what God has in store for The Summit and for NORTHface student ministry this year. Please join with me in praying that God would bless this year in enormous ways. That He would give us a spirit of wisdom and of revelation so we can know him better...and in return make Him known better. (Eph. 1:17-19). Pray that He would increase our faith as we see Him provide for us in a way only He can. I pray we would experience what it is like to live knowing and experiencing "better is one day in His courts than thousands anywhere else." Ps. 84:10. Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than we can ask or imagine... Glory be to God. Check back here for more updates and student ministry information. email me with any questions you might have about NORTHface.
